Our Story
Hair Care as Self-Care
Prestige owner and founder Christopher Mesa left a demanding career in banking and finance for Southern Oregon’s more relaxed pace. Barbershops offered refuge from job-related stress for Mesa, who relocated from his native Portland in 2016 to attend barber school.
Since opening his first shop in 2019, Mesa has rapidly expanded to three Prestige locations and aspires to release a hair care product line. Each Prestige shop has a distinct persona while promoting the business values of diversity, inclusivity and respect, welcoming ALL people seeking short hair and beard services.

University District
The Flagship Shop
The original Prestige location in Ashland’s University District was born in 2019 from a partnership with Mesa’s colleague, Kendall Dawson. While Dawson built Prestige’s following among diverse clientele, she changed directions during the COVID pandemic, propelling Mesa into his role as sole proprietor of Prestige.
Prestige Barbershop on Ashland’s Siskiyou Boulevard rapidly gained a reputation as a community hub within walking distance of Southern Oregon University. Pricing for the college student budget remains a key amenity, along with a complimentary draft brew or root beer from Prestige partner Caldera Brewing Co. in Ashland. Appealing to the community’s diversity, Prestige University District cultivates an atmosphere where clients feel they belong.

DOWNTOWN ASHLAND
A revitalized classic
A community “watering hole” in the heart of Ashland, Prestige Downtown emerged from the pandemic with a modern makeover. Paying tribute to nearly a century of barbering in Ashland, Prestige stepped in to carry the former Modern Barbershop — dating to 1931 — into the 21st century.
Prestige Downtown’s historical character is on full display as clients benefit from updated technology and payment systems. Modern Barbershop’s previous owners, including Glenn Miller, are celebrated in portraits by local artist Ryan Moon, who also produced several paintings for Prestige University District.
Miller assisted the downtown location’s yearlong transition to Prestige, which enjoys a unique clientele of longtime Ashland residents and newcomers. Just steps from the Plaza and many of Ashland’s beloved bed-and-breakfasts, Prestige Downtown is a favorite of locals and visitors alike.
